Shaun Wong

Collector. Father. Black Mamba.

playhousehk.com

I’ve been waiting for their site to get up and running for quite awhile since I started collecting their stuff, and it’s finally here. The site’s nothing too fancy at the moment, and mainly comprises their products’ promotional pix, but I’m hoping it gets better as it goes along.

I like the quality and attention to detail that Playhouse/Saturday Toys is known for and have their following items in my collection.

US Marine Gear Set

‘Denali’ Chest Harness w/40mm M203 Kit

US Marine Gear Set Ver 2.0

Prison Wardrobe Series

Men’s Suit

Men’s Clothes Series – Men Suit Set 01A | Saturday Toys

I picked up Set 01B earlier, so here’s pix of Set 01A, which sports a blue instead of white shirt, and has shades seemingly attached to his head.

I’m not sure if the glasses can be pried away from his head like Hot Toys Clark Kent, and I didn’t want to try to do so as I’ve already got a plain headsculpt.

Accessory-wise, he comes with a handphone and additional pair of shades. As far as I can tell, the phone is similar to the one that came with Set 01B.

I really like the quality and fit of the suit, and plan to use this for the impending Tony Stark head.

For an idea of the articulation the S1 body offers, look here.

Here he is with Set 01B.

If these weren’t so pricey, I’d be sorely tempted to stock up on a few, as suits do come in handy when kitbashing.

Playhouse US Marine Gear Set 2.0

As this is my very first boxed, complete military figure purchase, I thought it’d be good to document the steps involved in gearing up this figure. Do point out anything that can be improved upon, or refitted, in the comments section of this post. Read the rest of this entry »

Saturday Toys S1 Body

I picked up the Saturday Toys S1 body from the US Marine Gear Set 2.0 and thought it’d be a good idea to compare it with my fave body for kitbashing, the Hot Toys True Type.

Here he is with the S1 body that came with Contemporary Heroes 3W Detective.

The only difference that I could spot between these figures is the ankle joint.

The S1 has similar ankle connectors to Hot Toys True Type

… and the wrist joint should be able to fit most of Hot Toys hands, the exception being those similiar to the recent relaunch versions.

I’ve placed the S1 body and Hot Toys True Type in a variety of poses to see how S1′s articulation measures up.

The S1 body’s articulation holds its own against Hot Toys True Type and will come in useful when you need slightly shorter body for your bashes.

Headsculpt from Saturday Toys US Marine Gear Set 2.0

Personally, the headsculpt from Saturday Toys US Marine Gear Set 2.0 was a must-have for me, due his resemblance to a certain ex-footballer…

…whose likeness becomes distinct when placed in an iconic pose.

Saturday Toys Men’s Clothes Series – Men Suit Set 01B

I was looking forward to this set when it was announced, and finally picked up one of the sets today.

Simple packaging, WYSIWYG.

The cut of the suit looks identical to the one from Saturday Toys’ earlier Prison Wardrobe release. The material for the jacket feels similar but thinner cloth is used for the pants. The shoes come with laces, which is always a nice touch. Not shown are the white socks, which IMHO, should’ve been black instead.

Besides the obvious colour differences, the collar of the white shirt isn’t as wide as that of the light blue shirt from the earlier Saturday Toys’ suit.

Thankfully, the final headsculpt didn’t differ too much from the promo pix

…so the likeness of a certain actor is still intact.

The figure comes with a pair of glasses…

…and a handphone, in a different colourway from Subway’s Contemporary Heroes 3W Detective.

As speculated earlier, the S1 body is similar to Subway’s Contemporary Heroes 3W Detective, with some slight differences, which will be discussed in a later post.

Here’s the figure with the nude body and head from Saturday Toys’ US Marine Gear Set 2.0.

While the tailoring is of Saturday Toys’ usual standards, the suit doesn’t seem to hang well on the S1 body. Especially at the legs, which I find are too short, causing the trousers to bunch up at the cuffs. Pity that the suit doesn’t fit well on the nude body they personally developed. Here’s the figure with a Hot Toys True Type Caucasian (Relaunch Version) dressed up in Saturday Toys’ Prison Wardrobe Suit.

I’d expect the suit to look better on a Hot Toys True Type, and will only do a switch when I can be bothered to fiddle with the jacket’s buttons, which are easy to remove, but a biatch to fit back.

Via One Sixth Warriors,

Great timing by Saturday Toys for a Bruce Wayne bash, or Tony Stark, pending confirmation of the item description of Hot Toys Iron Man.

Head sculpt resembles William Fichtner from Prison Break.

Nice work Saturday Toys, looking forward to them.

Saturday Toys ‘Denali’ Chest Harness w/40mm M203 Kit

No wonder the people at OSW call it ‘the kitchen sink”.

Threw it on my PMC which was starting to resemble a tourist with a gun.
